Robert A. Abiuso is a Partner with Sahn Ward Braff Koblenz Coschignano. Mr. Abiuso concentrates his practice in the areas of personal injury litigation, criminal law, Municipal Litigation and Real Estate.

Mr. Abiuso worked for two major insurance defense carriers and their subsidiaries for upwards of 20 years before prosecuting plaintiff’s cases. Due to his experience with the insurance carriers, he understands how to evaluate a case. Mr. Abiuso has tried many cases throughout the Metropolitan Area. Representative jury verdicts include $420,000 in Westchester County, $210,000 on a “bulging disc” case in Suffolk County; a defense verdict on a “dog bite” case on Staten Island and a defense verdict on a “pedestrian knockdown” in Manhattan. Mr. Abiuso handles a myriad of cases such as automobile/motorcycle accidents; slip/trip and fall, construction accidents, burn victims and nursing home neglect matters. All matters are personally managed from inception to trial. Mr. Abiuso conducts his own depositions and prides himself on having a personal and reputable relationship with his clients.

Mr. Abiuso has also arbitrated Underinsured and Uninsured Motorist (SUM) claim litigation matters through the American Arbitration Association (AAA), handled municipal matters (as prior counsel to the Town of Islip); and handled all municipal claims litigation, especially dealing with “prior written notice” and General Municipal Liability.

In addition to the above, after having been trained by the Suffolk County Legal Aid Society and Justice Vincent Hand (Deceased), Mr. Abiuso represents clients in criminal defense matters. Representative matters include White Collar crime, misdemeanor, and felony level offenses.

Mr. Abiuso sits on numerous Boards of charitable organizations. He proudly serves as Vice President of St. John’s Home. Notably, he was recently appointed to the Equal Justice in the Courts Committee of Nassau County.

In 2016, Mr. Abiuso was recognized as the Public Interest Attorney of the Year by Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center. He routinely dedicates his time to pro-bono work for countless charitable organizations.

Prior to joining Sahn Ward Braff Koblenz Coschignano, Mr. Abiuso maintained a private practice in Babylon Village. While in college, Mr. Abiuso was a NYS Licensed Real Estate Broker.

Mr. Abiuso earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John’s University and a Juris Doctorate from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center. He is also a graduate of the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyer’s College and holds the designation as “Super Lawyer.” Mr. Abiuso is admitted to practice in the State and Federal Courts of New York, New Jersey and Washington D.C. He is a member of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the Nassau County Catholic Lawyers Guild.
